Και ησαν τα κτηνη αυτου επτακισχιλια προβατα και τρισχιλιαι καμηλοι και πεντακοσια ζευγη βοων και πεντακοσιαι ονοι και πληθος πολυ υπηρετων· και ητο ο ανθρωπος εκεινος ο μεγαλητερος παντων των κατοικων της Ανατολης.

And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was most noble of the men of the east.

وكان بنوه يذهبون ويعملون وليمة في بيت كل واحد منهم في يومه ويرسلون ويستدعون اخواتهم الثلاث ليأكلن ويشربن معهم.
Και υπηγαινον οι υιοι αυτου και εκαμνον συμποσια εν ταις οικιαις αυτων, εκαστος κατα την ημεραν αυτου, και εστελλον και προσεκαλουν τας τρεις αδελφας αυτων δια να τρωγωσι και να πινωσι μετ' αυτων.

And his sons visiting one another prepared a banquet every day, taking with them also their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

وكان لما دارت ايام الوليمة ان ايوب ارسل فقدسهم وبكّر في الغد واصعد محرقات على عددهم كلهم. لان ايوب قال ربما اخطأ بنيّ وجدفوا على الله في قلوبهم. هكذا كان ايوب يفعل كل الايام
Και οτε ετελειονον αι ημεραι του συμποσιου, εστελλεν ο Ιωβ και ηγιαζεν αυτους, και εξεγειρομενος πρωι προσεφερεν ολοκαυτωματα κατα τον αριθμον παντων αυτων· διοτι ελεγεν ο Ιωβ, Μηπως οι υιοι μου ημαρτησαν και εβλασφημησαν τον Θεον εν τη καρδια αυτων. Ουτως εκαμνεν ο Ιωβ, παντοτε.

And when the days of the banquet were completed, Job sent and purified them, having risen up in the morning, and offered sacrifices for them, according to their number, and one calf for a sin-offering for their souls: for Job said, Lest peradventure my sons have thought evil in their minds against God. Thus, then Job did continually.

وكان ذات يوم انه جاء بنو الله ليمثلوا امام الرب وجاء الشيطان ايضا في وسطهم.
Και ειπεν ο Κυριος προς τον Σαταναν, Ποθεν ερχεσαι; Και ο Σατανας απεκριθη προς τον Κυριον και ειπε, Περιελθων την γην και εμπεριπατησας εν αυτη παρειμι.

And the Lord said to the devil, Whence art thou come? And the devil answered the Lord, and said, I am come from compassing the earth, and walking up and down in the world.

فقال الرب للشيطان هل جعلت قلبك على عبدي ايوب. لانه ليس مثله في الارض. رجل كامل ومستقيم يتقي الله ويحيد عن الشر.
Και ειπεν ο Κυριος προς τον Σαταναν, Εβαλες τον νουν σου επι τον δουλον μου Ιωβ, οτι δεν υπαρχει ομοιος αυτου εν τη γη, ανθρωπος αμεμπτος και ευθυς, φοβουμενος τον Θεον και απεχομενος απο κακου;

And the Lord said to him, Hast thou diligently considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a man blameless, true, godly, abstaining from everything evil?
δεν περιεφραξας κυκλοθεν αυτον και την οικιαν αυτου και παντα οσα εχει; τα εργα των χειρων αυτου ευλογησας, και τα κτηνη αυτου επληθυνθησαν επι της γης·
English
Hast thou not made a hedge about him, and about his household, and all his possessions round about? and hast thou not blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his cattle upon the land?

ولكن ابسط يدك الآن ومس كل ما له فانه في وجهك يجدف عليك.
Και ειπεν ο Κυριος προς τον Σαταναν, Ιδου, εις την χειρα σου παντα οσα εχει· μονον επ' αυτον μη επιβαλης την χειρα σου. Και εξηλθεν ο Σατανας απ' εμπροσθεν του Κυριου.
English
Then the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I give into thine hand all that he has, but touch not himself. So the devil went out from the presence of the Lord.

وكان ذات يوم وابناؤه وبناته ياكلون ويشربون خمرا في بيت اخيهم الاكبر
Ενω ουτος ετι ελαλει, ηλθε και αλλος και ειπε, Πυρ Θεου επεσεν εξ ουρανου και εκαυσε τα προβατα και τους δουλους και κατεφαγεν αυτους· και εγω μονος διεσωθην δια να σοι απαγγειλω.

While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, Fire has fallen from heaven, and burnt up the sheep, and devoured the shepherds like wise; and I having escaped alone am come to tell thee.

وبينما هو يتكلم اذ جاء آخر وقال. الكلدانيون عيّنوا ثلاث فرق فهجموا على الجمال واخذوها وضربوا الغلمان بحد السيف ونجوت انا وحدي لاخبرك.
Ενω ουτος ετι ελαλει, ηλθε και αλλος και ειπεν, Οι Χαλδαιοι εκαμον τρεις λοχους και εφωρμησαν εις τας καμηλους και ηρπασαν αυτας· και τους δουλους επαταξαν εν στοματι μαχαιρας· και εγω μονος διεσωθην δια να σοι απαγγειλω.

While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, The horsemen formed three companies against us, and surrounded the camels, and took them for a prey, and slew the servants with the sword; and I only escaped, and am come to tell thee.

واذا ريح شديدة جاءت من عبر القفر وصدمت زوايا البيت الاربع فسقط على الغلمان فماتوا ونجوت انا وحدي لاخبرك.
και ιδου, ηλθε μεγας ανεμος εκ του περαν της ερημου και προσεβαλε τας τεσσαρας γωνιας του οικου και επεσεν επι τα παιδια, και απεθανον· και εγω μονος διεσωθην δια να σοι απαγγειλω.
English
suddenly a great wind came on from the desert, and caught the four corners of the house, and the house fell upon thy children, and they are dead; and I have escaped alone, and am come to tell thee.

فقام ايوب ومزّق جبّته وجزّ شعر راسه وخرّ على الارض وسجد
και ειπε, Γυμνος εξηλθον εκ κοιλιας μητρος μου και γυμνος θελω επιστρεψει εκει· ο Κυριος εδωκε και ο Κυριος αφηρεσεν· ειη το ονομα Κυριου ευλογημενον.

and said, I myself came forth naked from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither; the Lord gave, the Lord has taken away: as it seemed good to the Lord, so has it come to pass; blessed be the name of the Lord.
Ημεραν δε τινα ηλθον οι υιοι του Θεου δια να παρασταθωσιν ενωπιον του Κυριου· και μεταξυ αυτων ηλθε και ο Σατανας, δια να παρασταθη ενωπιον του Κυριου.

And it came to pass on a certain day, that the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, and the devil came among them to stand before the Lord.

And the Lord said to the devil, Hast thou then observed my servant Job, that there is none of men upon the earth like him, a harmless, true, blameless, godly man, abstaining from all evil? and he yet cleaves to innocence, whereas thou has told me to destroy his substance without cause?

فاجاب الشيطان الرب وقال. جلد بجلد وكل ما للانسان يعطيه لاجل نفسه.
Τοτε ειπε προς αυτον γυνη αυτου, Ετι κρατεις την ακεραιοτητα σου; Βλασφημησον τον Θεον και αποθανε.

And when much time had passed, his wife said to him, How long wilt thou hold out, saying,(9a)Behold, I wait yet a little while, expecting the hope of my deliverance?(9b)for, behold, thy memorial is abolished from the earth, even thy sons and daughters, the pangs and pains of my womb which I bore in vain with sorrows;(9c)and thou thyself sittest down to spend the nights in the open air among the corruption of worms, and I am a wanderer and a servant from place to place and house to house, waiting for the setting of the sun, that I may rest from my labours and my pangs which now beset me:(9d)but say some word against the Lord, and die.

فقال لها تتكلمين كلاما كاحدى الجاهلات. أالخير نقبل من عند الله والشر لا نقبل . في كل هذا لم يخطئ ايوب بشفتيه
Ο δε ειπε προς αυτην, Ελαλησας ως λαλει μια εκ των αφρονων γυναικων· τα αγαθα μονον θελομεν δεχθη εκ του Θεου, και τα κακα δεν θελομεν δεχθη; Εν πασι τουτοις δεν ημαρτησεν ο Ιωβ με τα χειλη αυτου.
English
But he looked on her, and said to her, Thou hast spoken like one of the foolish women. If we have received good things of the hand of the Lord, shall we not endure evil things? In all these things that happened to him, Job sinned not at all with his lips before God.

فلما سمع اصحاب ايوب الثلاثة بكل الشر الذي أتى عليه جاءوا كل واحد من مكانه. اليفاز التيماني وبلدد الشوحي وصوفر النعماتي وتواعدوا ان يأتوا ليرثوا له ويعّزوه.
Ακουσαντες δε οι τρεις φιλοι του Ιωβ παντα ταυτα τα κακα τα επελθοντα επ' αυτον, ηλθον εκαστος εκ του τοπου αυτου· Ελιφας ο Θαιμανιτης και Βιλδαδ ο Σαυχιτης και Σωφαρ ο Νααμαθιτης· διοτι ειχον συμφωνησει να ελθωσιν ομου, δια να συλλυπηθωσιν αυτον και να παρηγορησωσιν αυτον.

Now his three friends having heard of all the evil that was come upon him, came to him each from his own country: Eliphaz the king of the Thaemans, Baldad sovereign of the Saucheans, Sophar king of he Minaeans: and they came to him with one accord, to comfort and to visit him.

ورفعوا اعينهم من بعيد ولم يعرفوه فرفعوا اصواتهم وبكوا ومزّق كل واحد جبّته وذروا ترابا فوق رؤوسهم نحو السماء.
Και οτε εσηκωσαν τους οφθαλμους αυτων μακροθεν και δεν εγνωρισαν αυτον, υψωσαν την φωνην αυτων και εκλαυσαν· και διεσχισαν εκαστος το ιματιον αυτου και ερριψαν χωμα επι τας κεφαλας αυτων προς τον ουρανον.

And when they saw him from a distance they did not know him; and they cried with a loud voice, and wept, and rent every one his garment, and sprinkled dust upon their heads,

وقعدوا معه على الارض سبعة ايام وسبع ليال ولم يكلمه احد بكلمة لانهم رأوا ان كآبته كانت عظيمة جدا
Την νυκτα εκεινην να κατακρατηση σκοτος· να μη συναφθη με τας ημερας του ετους· να μη εισελθη εις τον αριθμον των μηνων.

let that day and night be cursed, let darkness carry them away; let it not come into the days of the year, neither let it be numbered with the days of the months.
Οταν πλαγιαζω, λεγω, Ποτε θελω εγερθη, και θελει περασει η νυξ; και ειμαι πληρης ανησυχιας εως της αυγης·
English
Whenever I lie down, I say, When will it be day? and whenever I rise up, again I say when will it be evening? and I am full of pains from evening to morning.
Ημαρτησα· τι δυναμαι να καμω εις σε, διατηρητα του ανθρωπου; δια τι με εθεσας σημαδιον σου, και ειμαι βαρος εις εμαυτον;

If I have sinned, what shall I be able to do, O thou that understandest the mind of men? why hast thou made me as thine accuser, and why am I a burden to thee?

ولماذا لا تغفر ذنبي ولا تزيل اثمي لاني الآن اضطجع في التراب. تطلبني فلا اكون
Και δια τι δεν συγχωρεις την παραβασιν μου και αφαιρεις την ανομιαν μου; διοτι μετ' ολιγον θελω κοιμασθαι εν τω χωματι· και το πρωι θελεις με ζητησει, και δεν θελω υπαρχει.
English
Why hast thou not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? but now I shall depart to the earth; and in the morning I am no more.
Δεν διδεται αποκρισις εις το πληθος των λογων; και ο πολυλογος θελει δικαιωθη;
English
He that speaks much, should also hear on the other side: or does the fluent speaker think himself to be righteous? blessed is the short lived offspring of woman.

And he has been appointed to be food for vultures; and he knows within himself that he is doomed to be a carcass: and a dark day shall carry him away as with a whirlwind.
Και εγω εδυναμην να λαλησω καθως σεις· εαν η ψυχη σας ητο εις τον τοπον της ψυχης μου, ηδυναμην να επισωρευσω λογους εναντιον σας, και να κινησω εναντιον σας την κεφαλην μου.

I also will speak as ye do: if indeed your soul were in my soul’s stead,

He has attacked me with the keen glances of his eyes; with his sharp spear he has smitten me down upon my knees; and they have run upon me with one accord.

كنت مستريحا فزعزعني وامسك بقفاي فحطمني ونصبني له غرضا.
Ω διασπαραττων την ψυχην σου εν τω θυμω σου, δια σε η γη θελει εγκαταλειφθη; και ο βραχος θελει μετακινηθη απο του τοπου αυτου;

Anger has possessed thee: for what if thou shouldest die; would the earth under heaven be desolate? or shall the mountains be overthrown from their foundations?
Και εαν τωοντι εσφαλα, το σφαλμα μου μενει εν εμοι.

Yea verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it was not right to speak; and my words err, and are unreasonable.
Ενω καταγινεται να εμπληση την κοιλιαν αυτου, ο Θεος θελει αποστειλει τον θυμον της οργης αυτου επ' αυτον, και θελει επιβρεξει αυτον κατ' αυτου ενω τρωγει.

If by any means he would fill his belly, let God send upon him the fury of wrath; let him bring a torrent of pains upon him.
Ουτοι ειναι εκ των ανθισταμενων εις το φως· δεν γνωριζουσι τας οδους αυτου, και δεν μενουσιν εν ταις τριβοις αυτου.

Why then has he not visited these? forasmuch as they were upon the earth, and took no notice, and they knew not the way of righteousness, neither have they walked in their appointed paths?

مع النور يقوم القاتل يقتل المسكين والفقير وفي الليل يكون كاللص.
Η μητρα θελει λησμονησει αυτους· ο σκωληξ θελει βοσκεσθαι επ' αυτους· δεν θελουσιν ελθει πλεον εις ενθυμησιν· και η αδικια θελει συντριφθη ως ξυλον.
English
Then is his sin brought to remembrance, and he vanishes like a vapour of dew: but let what he has done be recompensed to him, and let every unrighteous one be crushed like rotten wood.
Ιδου, ταυτα ειναι μερη των οδων αυτου· αλλα ποσον ελαχιστον πραγμα ακουομεν περι αυτου; την δε βροντην της δυναμεως αυτου τις δυναται να εννοηση;

Behold, these are parts of his way; and we will hearken to him at the least intimation of his word: but the strength of his thunder who knows, when he shall employ it?

But now the youngest have laughed me to scorn, now they reprove me in their turn, whose fathers I set at nought; whom I did not deem worthy to be with my shepherd dogs.
εκοπτον μολοχην πλησιον των θαμνων και την ριζαν των αρκευθων δια τροφην αυτων.

Who compass the salt places on the sounding shore, who had salt herbs for their food, and were dishonorable and of no repute, in want of every good thing; who also ate roots of trees by reason of great hunger.

Then Elius the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the country of Ausis, was angered: and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.

και απεκριθη ο Ελιου ο υιος του Βαραχιηλ του Βουζιτου και ειπεν· Εγω ειμαι νεος την ηλικιαν, και σεις γεροντες· δια τουτο εφοβηθην και συνεσταλην να σας φανερωσω την γνωμην μου.

And Elius the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, I am younger in age, and ye are elder, wherefore I kept silence, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge.
Εαν ηναι μηνυτης μετ' αυτου η ερμηνευτης, εις μεταξυ χιλιων, δια να αναγγειλη προς τον ανθρωπον την ευθυτητα αυτου·

Though there should be a thousand messengers of death, not one of them shall wound him: if he should purpose in his heart to turn to the Lord, and declare to man his fault, and shew his folly;

يترءاف عليه ويقول اطلقه عن الهبوط الى الحفرة قد وجدت فدية.
θελει δεηθη του Θεου και θελει ευνοησει προς αυτον· και θελει βλεπει το προσωπον αυτου εν χαρα· και θελει αποδωσει εις τον ανθρωπον την δικαιοσυνην αυτου.
English
And he shall pray to the Lord, and his prayer shall be accepted of him; he shall enter with a cheerful countenance, with a full expression of praise: for he will render to men their due.

يغني بين الناس فيقول قد اخطأت وعوجت المستقيم ولم أجاز عليه.
Οστις δεν προσωποληπτει εις αρχοντας ουδε αποβλεπει εις τον πλουσιον μαλλον παρα εις τον πτωχον; επειδη παντες ουτοι ειναι εργον των χειρων αυτου.
English
Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honourable man, neither knows how to give honour to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.

بغتة يموتون وفي نصف الليل. يرتج الشعب ويزولون وينزع الاعزاء لا بيد.
Και οταν αυτος διδη ησυχιαν, τις θελει διαταραξει αυτην; και οταν κρυπτη το προσωπον αυτου, τις δυναται να ιδη αυτον; ειτε επι εθνος ειτε επι ανθρωπον ομου·

And he will give quiet, and who will condemn? and he will hide his face, and who shall see him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man also:
Δεν αποσυρει τους οφθαλμους αυτου απο των δικαιων, αλλα και μετα βασιλεων βαλλει αυτους επι θρονου· μαλιστα καθιζει αυτους διαπαντος, και ειναι υψωμενοι.

He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but they shall be with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.
και ουτως ηθελε σε εκβαλει απο της στενοχωριας εις ευρυχωριαν, οπου δεν υπαρχει στενοχωρια· και το παρατιθεμενον επι της τραπεζης σου θελει εισθαι πληρες παχους.

and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek. And he has also enticed thee out of the mouth of the enemy:

After him shall be a cry with a loud voice; he shall thunder with the voice of his excellency, yet he shall not cause men to pass away, for one shall hear his voice.
Τον Παντοδυναμον, δεν δυναμεθα να εννοησωμεν αυτον· ειναι υπεροχος κατα την δυναμιν και κατα την κρισιν και κατα το πληθος της δικαιοσυνης, δεν καταθλιβει.

and we do not find another his equal in strength: as for him that judges justly, dost thou not think that he listens?
Why do I yet plead? being rebuked even while reproving the Lord: hearing such things, whereas I am nothing: and what shall I answer to these arguments? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

For who is he that hides counsel from thee? or who keeps back his words, and thinks to hide them from thee? and who will tell me what I knew not, great and wonderful things which I understood not?

And it came to pass after the Lord had spoken all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Thaemanite, Thou hast sinned, and thy two friends: for ye have not said anything true before me, as my servant Job has.

والآن فخذوا لانفسكم سبعة ثيران وسبعة كباش واذهبوا الى عبدي ايوب واصعدوا محرقة لاجل انفسكم وعبدي ايوب يصلي من اجلكم لاني ارفع وجهه لئلا اصنع معكم حسب حماقتكم لانكم لم تقولوا فيّ الصواب كعبدي ايوب.
δια τουτο λαβετε τωρα εις εαυτους επτα μοσχους και επτα κριους και υπαγετε προς τον δουλον μου Ιωβ, και προσφερετε ολοκαυτωμα υπερ εαυτων· ο δε Ιωβ ο δουλος μου θελει ικετευσει υπερ υμων· διοτι θελω δεχθη το προσωπον αυτου· δια να μη πραξω με σας κατα την αφροσυνην σας· διοτι δεν ελαλησατε περι εμου το ορθον ως ο δουλος μου Ιωβ.

Now then take seven bullocks, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and he shall offer a burnt-offering for you. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will only accept him: for but his sake, I would have destroyed you, for ye have not spoken the truth against my servant Job.

فذهب اليفاز التيماني وبلدد الشوحي وصوفر النعماتي وفعلوا كما قال الرب لهم ورفع الرب وجه ايوب.
Και υπηγον Ελιφας ο Θαιμανιτης και Βιλδαδ ο Σαυχιτης και Σωφαρ ο Νααμαθιτης, και εκαμον ως προσεταξεν εις αυτους ο Κυριος· ο δε Κυριος εδεχθη το προσωπον του Ιωβ.

So Eliphaz the Thaemanite, and Baldad the Sauchite, and Sophar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them: and he pardoned their sin for the sake of Job.

ورد الرب سبي ايوب لما صلى لاجل اصحابه وزاد الرب على كل ما كان لايوب ضعفا.
Και εστρεψεν ο Κυριος την αιχμαλωσιαν του Ιωβ, αφου προσηυχηθη υπερ των φιλων αυτου· και εδωκεν ο Κυριος εις τον Ιωβ διπλασια παντων των οσα ειχε προτερον.

And the Lord prospered Job: and when he prayed also for his friends, he forgave them their sin: and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even the double of what he had before.

فجاء اليه كل اخوته وكل اخواته وكل معارفه من قبل وأكلوا معه خبزا في بيته ورثوا له وعزّوه عن كل الشر الذي جلبه الرب عليه واعطاه كل منهم قسيطة واحدة وكل واحد قرطا من ذهب.
Τοτε ηλθον προς αυτον παντες οι αδελφοι αυτου και πασαι αι αδελφαι αυτου και παντες οι γνωριζοντες αυτον προτερον, και εφαγον αρτον μετ' αυτου εν τω οικω αυτου· και συνεκλαυσαν με αυτον και παρηγορησαν αυτον περι παντος του κακου, το οποιον ο Κυριος επεφερεν επ' αυτον· και εδωκαν εκαστος εις αυτον εν αργυριον και εκαστος εν χρυσουν ενωτιον.

And all his brethren and his sisters heard all that had happened to him, and they came to him, and so did all that had known him from the first: and they ate and drank with him, and comforted him, and wondered at all that the Lord had brought upon him: and each one gave him a lamb, and four drachms’ weight of gold, even of unstamped gold.

Και ευλογησεν ο Κυριος τα εσχατα του Ιωβ μαλλον παρα τα πρωτα· ωστε απεκτησε δεκατεσσαρας χιλιαδας προβατων και εξακισχιλιας καμηλους και χιλια ζευγη βοων και χιλιας ονους.

And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job, more than the beginning: and his cattle were fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, a thousand she-asses of the pastures.

And there were not found in comparison with the daughters of Job, fairer women than they in all the world: and their father gave them an inheritance among their brethren.

Μετα ταυτα εζησεν ο Ιωβ εκατον τεσσαρακοντα ετη, και ειδε τους υιους αυτου και τους υιους των υιων αυτου, τεταρτην γενεαν.

And Job lived after his affliction a hundred and seventy years: and all the years he lived were two hundred and forty: and Job saw his sons and his sons’ sons, the fourth generation.
